Landcare mid-year report

Over 1,200 trees and understorey plants have been planted and cared for by this happy band of Islanders since May. Only a handful of casualties are reported with over 150 manna gums among others planted. Generally the sites are doing well .

Reports are warning of a dry dry summer due to El Nino and in response it seems birds are pairing up all ready. Sea eagles have been observed pairing up. Several Wedge Tail Eagles have been spotted too, and a unusual number of Pacific Gulls were observed towards Ocean Grange. Others preparing for breeding are Ravens, Wood duck, Magpies, and Bronze Wings.

A pod of 25 dolphins was seen in Lake Victoria and there was rumored to be a seal also.

In addition Parks Victoria staff have commenced work on a pathway as part of the Koala Trail, and propose new signage and a small car park off Twelfth Ave.
